Sea of Cortez
Itinerary is subject to weather
Day 1
- Please meet at SeeCreatures Cabo San Lucas. Feel encourage to drop by anytime to drop your bags off and maybe go for a couple of local dives!! We ask that all our guests are back at SeeCreatures by 4:30 pm for the coach transfer to La Paz.
Day 2
- Your first day at sea typically starts anchored off a quiet beach at Cerralvo Island for a warm-up dive and then over to the incredible tornadoes of fish at La Reyna. This is also our best chance of encountering giant manta rays in the entire Sea of Cortes. We encourage our non-diving guests to arrange before their trip for snorkeling, kayaking, paddleboarding, swimming coaching, or a complimentary discover scuba experience.
Day 3-7
- Where we go next will vary. We might have reports of a huge pod of dolphins or even orcas or sperm whales. Interactions are always on their terms. During your days at sea, we will almost certainly visit Isla Las Animas, which boasts a large population of sea lions. This can be a great hammerhead shark destination for divers and a great snorkeling opportunity and a chance for everyone else to go ashore. We’ll likely spend time around the National Park of Espiritu Santo, check out some wreck diving, go ashore for beach time or hikes into the hills guided by our naturalist, and enjoy kayaking, paddleboarding, swimming, or whatever you want. Divers usually have the option of 4 dives a day. You can expect 2 days in Loreto National Park diving Coronado and Danzante and perhaps Carmen Island.
Day 4
- Morning breakfast. Disembark at 8:30 am in La Paz and complimentary transfer back to either SeeCreatures Cabo San Lucas or SJD Airport.
Mexican Pacific - Magdalena Bay
Day 1
- Meet at SeeCreatures Cabo by 5 pm for the short transfer to embark your ship. Board and set sail up the coast of Baja for the approximately 15 hour run to Magdalena Bay. The sea is usually calm and sheltered inside the bay and barrier islands where we anchor at night. Please note that our search for and interaction with the bait balls of the sardine run is in the open Pacific Ocean.
Day 2
- Late morning arrival in Magdalena Bay. Today is our warmup and tuneup day at the south end of Margarita Island. While this adventure is primarily about snorkelling and free diving with the schooling sardine and bait balls, you will have the opportunity to snorkel with sea lions, and weather permitting, dive on the remains of a large passenger ship that sank more than 200 years ago all well as the wreck of a WW1 submarine.
Day 3-6
- Let’s fine some bait balls! Our spotter airplane will be up on patrol for the first couple days of your trip. These next days are about snorkelling and freediving. Not scuba diving. We never know quite what Mother Ocean has in store for us, but on the vast majority of our trips, we are able to enjoy fairly calm seas with a low swell and loads of critters. Striped marlin and bryde whales are the stars of the sardine run but there is lots more to sea. This is a cooperative eco-tourism program working with local pangas and captains who pivoted from fishing to tourism. Nobody knows these waters and where to find the animals better than these guys. You should also see turtles, more sea lions, sharks, and seabirds. It can be very very exciting.
Day 7
- Our spare day for bait balls in case we had inclement weather during the week. Otherwise this is our day to do some scuba diving and also go ashore in the amazing giant sand dunes of Margarita Island. Departing for Cabo mid- afternoon on what is almost always a pleasant downhill ride with gentle motion.
